Yuksom, Sikkim – A trekker from Kadamtala, Ranidunga, Sandeep Roy, 39, has been reported missing since April 21 while on the Goecha La trail in West Sikkim. The incident occurred near Thangsing, a significant waypoint on the high-altitude route.
Search Efforts Hampered by Terrain and Weather
Roy was part of an eight-member trekking group and was reportedly lagging behind when he disappeared. The Goecha La trail, known for its steep paths and unpredictable weather, has posed challenges to the search operations. Local authorities, police, and residents from nearby villages are involved in the ongoing search.
Group Members to Assist Investigators
The remaining members of the trekking group are expected to arrive in Yuksom later today. They may provide investigators with more details regarding the circumstances leading up to Roy’s disappearance.
Advisory for Trekkers
Officials have urged trekkers to exercise extra caution and maintain communication, especially in isolated stretches of the trail. The Goecha La trail is a popular route for trekkers, but its challenging conditions require thorough preparation and awareness.
The search for Sandeep Roy continues, with authorities and local communities working together to locate the missing trekker.
