Gangtok: A powerful torrential rainstorm unleashed havoc in the Gyalshing-Dentam region, resulting in the complete destruction of a vital road that connects the two areas.
The relentless downpour washed away the road, severing transportation between Gyalshing and Dentam. Alongside the road damage, reports indicate that a house and a garage belonging to Phurba Lepcha were swept away by the forceful Kalez Khola.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of human casualties or injuries resulting from the incident. However, the material losses have been significant, with several properties severely affected. Local authorities have swiftly responded, with Basant Moktan, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Dentam BAC, and the Assistant District Collector (ADC) Development visiting the site to assess the damages.
The impact of the heavy rains extended beyond the Gyalshing-Dentam road. The under-construction road connecting Legship and Dentam has also suffered extensive damage, exacerbating transportation challenges in the region.
The team, led by BDO Basant Moktan and ADC Development, is actively evaluating the losses incurred by this disaster. The authorities are working to address the situation and provide necessary assistance to affected individuals.
Residents in the region are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions as the aftermath of the torrential rain continues to be assessed. The local administration is coordinating relief efforts and ensuring the safety of the affected communities.
